The Kate Dishman
Rehabilitation Center opens on
the hospital’s sixth floor. The
19-
bed Center for New Life,
the area’s very first single-
room maternity care unit, also
opens.
1988
The Heart Institute at St.
Elizabeth launches the area’s
first cardiac rehabilitation
program.
1994
The Wilton P. Hebert Health &
Wellness Center and medical
office building is built on the
St. Elizabeth campus.
1999
The Sisters of Charity of the
Incarnate Word in Houston and
San Antonio form CHRISTUS
Health. CHRISTUS Hospital –
St. Elizabeth and St. Mary and
CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial
Hospital become an integral
part of the faith-based, not-for-
profit CHRISTUS Health system.
In the same year, the hospital
was certified as a level II
trauma center.
2004
The CHRISTUS Outpatient
Pavilion opens at 11th Street
featuring imaging, outpa-
tient surgery, lab, diabetes
education and the Tracy Byrd
Hyperbaric Medicine and
Wound Care Center.
2005
CHRISTUS Hospital – St.
Elizabeth wins Consumer’s
Choice Award for Best Hospital
and has won the distinction
every year since then.
2007
CHRISTUS Hospital – St.
Elizabeth earns Magnet
Hospital certification from
ANCC (American Nurses
Credentialing Center) – a
designation it continues to hold
today.
2010
The Spine and Orthopedic
Specialty Center offers care
for state-of-the-art joint
replacement and spine surgery
patients. The Southeast Texas
Bariatric Center opens with
programs and services to treat
obesity. We are recognized
as an Advanced Primary
Stroke Center by The Joint
Commission and designated as
a Cycle III certified Chest Pain
Center, one of only 22 in the
state of Texas.
2011
Our spacious new emergency
department opens featuring
advanced rapid assessment
and treatment areas.
2012
Today, the hospital has 438
beds, employs over 1,650
health care professionals and
is the largest Magnet hospital
between Houston and Baton
Rouge. Innovative O-arm
®
imaging is offered, further
enhancing our already premier
neurosurgery program. We
are now the regional leader in
spine and orthopedics, cardiol-
ogy, oncology, general surgery,
imaging, bariatrics, birthing,
and neonatal care. Our nursing
professionals and nationally
recognized physicians work at
the forefront of research, clini-
cal trials, treatment, and care.
