iT’S a CliChÉ,
but it’s true. Women tend to put their own health on
the back burner while they take care of everything else. The CHRISTUS
LiveWell Women’s Network and annual conference aims to turn that around.
According to Jay Sheppard, it’s right on track.
“
It was a great opportunity to be reminded to put our
own health first,” says Sheppard, who was one of nearly
2,000
women who attended this year’s fifth annual confer-
ence. “I came away with a renewed spirit.”
The right tools
That type of empowerment is a major theme of the an-
nual LiveWell Women’s Conference. CHRISTUS provides
the tools to make it happen. It started with actress Helen
Hunt’s inspiring keynote speech. Women also heard 16
physicians speaking at 25 workshop sessions on important health topics.
Nearly 400 women took part in various health screenings, and of course, there
was plenty of boutique shopping!
For Sheppard, screenings pointed her toward better health habits. “They
reminded me that I could improve my physical and mental health by making
better lifestyle choices,” she says.
Woman power
Body and spirit support each other, and the LiveWell Women’s Conference
aimed to nurture both. By all accounts, it succeeded.
“
There was a real sense of unity and fellowship,” says Sheppard, who at-
tended with her female co-workers. The women had the ideal take-away mes-
sage from the conference. According to Sheppard, “We vowed to encourage
each other to maintain healthy lifestyles from now on.”
