HARRY CONNICK JR .
will perform at CHRISTUS Health Foundation Southeast Texas’
Golden Anniversary Benefit Gala on Saturday, April 21, at the Beaumont Civic Center.
This gala will recognize 50 years of service of CHRISTUS Hospital
St. Elizabeth
to the region. The Foundation, along with Gala Chairs Jennifer and Greg Thompson,
are honoring Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, DD, at this event.
“This is a very special 50th anniversary celebration for CHRISTUS Hospital –
St. Elizabeth,” says Ivy Pate, CHRISTUS Health Southeast Texas Regional Vice
President – Philanthropy. “We are thrilled to honor Bishop Guillory and have
Harry Connick Jr. perform at the event. This event ensures the vision of the
Sisters of Charity to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ lives in the work
of CHRISTUS Hospital for the next 50 years and beyond. The Foundation is truly
grateful to our business and individual supporters for their contributions.”
The 2011 Gala raised funds, honored generous benefactors and delighted at-
tendees with a performance by the legendary band Earth, Wind and Fire.
Proceeds from the 2011 event supported:
A complete renovation of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at CHRISTUS
Hospital – St. Elizabeth.
Renovation of the Pediatric Unit at CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Mary.
The purchase of a digital mammography unit at CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial
Hospital.
The Gala was chaired by Cindy and Jamie Dishman, whose family has a long
history of supporting CHRISTUS Hospital. During the Gala, the co-chairs and the
Foundation paid tribute to the Valero Refinery of Port Arthur for its contributions to-
ward the planned renovation of the Pediatric Unit at CHRISTUS Hospital
St. Mary.

A night to remember:
Gala patrons enjoy festive evening
There are heroes among us
and angels in our midst.
And now, thanks to the tal-
ents of area youth, those who
enter CHRISTUS Hospital
St.
Elizabeth can recognize their
presence through the Wall of
Heroes.
This special project honors those
who have donated their organs
through CHRISTUS Hospital, says Kathy
Rodgers, RN, MSN, CNS, CCRN, CEN,
regional director of Trauma Services.
The hospital staged a competition
for area high school art students. Their
task was to create original artwork
depicting organ donation as giving the
gift of life.
Hospital staff, together with three
organ recipients, the family mem-
ber of a donor and a representative
of Southwest Transplant Alliance,
Organ donors honored by CHRISTUS – St. Elizabeth
selected two entries to be made into
murals. The winning entries came
from Memorial High School and Port
Neches Groves High School. A team of
students from each school brought the
artwork to life on the walls of the hos-
pital’s ICU waiting rooms. Photographs
of donors, complete with halos, have
since been added to the walls to create
lasting memorials.
According to Rodgers, all of the
nearly 40 entries were wonderfully
creative and choosing winners was
difficult.
But she’s certain the selected pieces
capture the essence of organ donation
and pay tribute to those who made
such a difference for people in need.
Becoming a donor is following in
the footsteps of Christ, Rodgers says.
Through his life, he gave life to others.
“What greater gift can you give?” she
asks. “That’s what donors are doing.”
