IS IT TIME
for your annual physical? Maybe
you need an x-ray or lab test? Or do you just
feel sick and want to check in with a doctor?
If you live near Jasper, Kirbyville or Sam
Rayburn, you can get all these services and
more – close to home. And that’s no small
thing.
“There often aren’t enough physicians to
serve rural populations,” says Carrie Watson,
supervisor of the CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial
Hospital Family Practice Clinics in these
towns. “We established our clinics to deliver
care to these patients.”
Filling a need
Back in the 1990s, access to healthcare
wasn’t so easy in these small communities.
Kirbyville residents had only one doctor’s
office until CHRISTUS Hospital converted
an old hospital into a clinic. In Sam Rayburn
there were no doctors. In fact, that com-
munity partnered with CHRISTUS Jasper
Memorial Hospital to open a clinic there. In
Jasper, the hospital converted private medi-
cal offices into the current Family Practice
Clinic.
Quality care
These CHRISTUS clinics meet specific
standards set by both the state and federal
government. For example, each must have at
least one highly trained nurse practitioner or
physician’s assistant in addition to a physi-
cian. The clinics are inspected to ensure that
tests are accurate and procedures are done
properly. Not all small clinics have these
requirements.
You can visit your local Family Practice
Clinic for services such as:
Regular primary care for everyone from
babies to seniors.
Standard testing, including blood sugar,
complete blood count and urinalysis, done
on-site. Results are available immediately.
More complex lab tests done on sam-
ples sent to CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial
Hospital.
Full x-ray services.
Sports physicals for elementary through
high school students.
Immunizations for children.
Flu and pneumonia shots.
These clinics also can help with emergen-
cy care. All clinic providers are certified in
advanced life support. They can stabilize and
transport patients to the hospital as quickly
as possible by ambulance or, if necessary, by
helicopter.
Good neighbors
The providers who take care of you at the
CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial Hospital Family
Practice Clinics are expert professionals.
They are also people you’ll see at your local
market or the school ball game.
“They’re a part of the community,” says
Watson. “And the clinics are very highly re-
garded by the communities they serve.”
